Psychiatrists have apparently done for ADHD-type mental health issues what they have done for depression and bipolar disorder: Separated symptoms into various categories and sub-categories so we may be better treated (?) by them.

I understand that it is very difficult for a parent to find what will help their child if they really are mentally ill, but for their own health and happiness, please go to these pseudo-scientists as a last resort. It is such a sad and usually incorrect message to send a child who is only reacting to a stressful and confusing world that he or she is mentally defective if their behavior just doesn't make other adults comfortable. Altering brain chemistry for any person could never heal a real problem, although some seriously disturbed patients do need to be tranquilized when nothing else can be done. I really cannot understand why these doctors are still given so much validation and trust when their treatment options are based on theories that cannot be clearly tested and proven to be effective or simply involve counseling which any family member or trusted friend would be better suited for. They still study freud and skinner as part of their education. These guys were egomaniacs and liars at best, not healers or scientists.
